Routine check-up

It can be challenging for most of us to fit in a routine visit to our general practitioner because when life gets busy, we don’t consider it a priority.

For Dr Mading-Ongadile, her patients are always her number one priority which is why she always strongly encourages her patients to come in for an annual check-up. She believes regular check-ups are the best way to maintain our health and avoid serious health problems.

When we go to the doctor for a specific reason, such as the flu, your doctor is less likely to ask unrelated questions such as ‘When last have you checked your cholesterol?’ or ‘Have you had a pap smear recently?’. If you schedule a general check-up with your doctor and inform them that you want a complete health screen, they will do everything from testing your blood sugar levels to your thyroid function. Your doctor will ask you questions to understand your medical history and any genetic conditions they should look out for.

In the long run, taking the time to make an appointment with your doctor will also reduce healthcare costs. Regular health check-ups mitigate the risk of dangerous health conditions, reducing your risk of undergoing surgeries or any other medical severe expenditure.
